October News

Hello all! What a relief, the heat of the summer is over and fall has begun. This is our favorite time of the year - and by the looks of things, the plant's favorite time as well. As you know, Steve planted 1050 tomato plants and because of the heat, they did not produce. Good news, there are green tomatoes on the plants and if all goes well, and we do not get an early freeze, we just might get some tomatoes this year. As soon as my mother gets back from her worldly travels, I will have some pictures to post - exciting things happening at Phocas Farms. Steve finished building the larger hoop house and inside you will find spinach, lettuce, radishes, carrots, Komatsuna (an asian tender green) beets, turnips, Swiss chard, kale, mesclun, and tomatoes. Outside, he planted a fall planting of squash, zucchini, cucumbers, broccoli, broccoli rabe, cauliflower, Brussell sprouts, and cabbage. The okra is still producing, and the peppers are finally producing after the very hot summer. The Swiss chard that produced for us all summer is looking absolutely wonderful and the kale that slowed its growth during the heat is also loving this weather and producing an abundance of wonderful, healthy leaves! We thank God every day for our wonderful place and we know that He will take care of us. There are miracles surrounding us every day and we continue to look for new opportunities that result from the struggles. We thank all of our CSA customers for their understanding and support and we could not have done any of this without you!
